D. Chad Middleton

Director of Strategic Vision

Chad's commitment to creating a sustainable global future stems from his role as a father. His environmental ethic is based on a belief in the intrinsic and emergent properties of ecology. Growing up in Hawaii offered Chad plenty of opportunities to be immersed in the wonders of the natural world, the forests, streams, ocean, and wetlands. Chad has pursued course work and professional goals in the fields of natural history study, applied ecology, and environmental education. He was the refuge manager on Kure Atoll. He operated the Green Machine in Makiki, Oahu for fifteen years during his time developing and managing educational programs for the Mālama 'Āina Foundation. He has also built and operated ecological engineering projects in China and Hawaii island; and famously in the Ala Wai canal.

"Knowledge seems to be the most important key to unlocking the fantastic flow of resources available to all humans. Engaging early and often in the transformative process of learning encourages one to envision possibilities for success when meeting any obstacle. Empowering everyone to be lifelong learners will enable our journey to the best possible future we can imagine." -Chado
